Solace Crosshair

GUIDE

Minecraft crosshair on PC: change it in-game first, then consider an overlay

This guide covers Java Edition's settings. For the general version of the overlay topic, see our guide to custom crosshairs in windowed or borderless games.

1. The Attack Indicator (Java Edition)

In Java Edition, the Attack Indicator setting has three values: Off, Crosshair and Hotbar. In current versions it sits in the Preferences section of Options > Video Settings; older versions list it among the video settings. Crosshair shows a small gray translucent bar below the crosshair that displays your attack power. It doesn't change the crosshair's look.

2. A resource pack can change the crosshair's look (Java Edition)

A resource pack can replace the crosshair texture. The Minecraft Wiki's list of Java Edition GUI textures shows the crosshair as a HUD sprite; in current versions that is assets/minecraft/textures/gui/sprites/hud/crosshair.png inside a resource pack. Because this is a normal, in-game resource pack, it's the first thing to try, especially on multiplayer servers.

3. Make the interface easier to see

Options > Accessibility Settings has a High Contrast option that enhances the contrast of UI elements. It can help if the interface is hard to read.

4. When an overlay makes sense

An overlay is a separate window drawn over the game. It adds a fixed crosshair at the centre of your monitor. It does not replace Minecraft's own crosshair, so you would see both unless you also change the in-game one with a resource pack.

Disclosure: Solace Crosshair is made by SolaceSoftware, the shop that publishes this guide.

Solace Crosshair draws your crosshair in a separate always-on-top window, centred on the monitor you choose.

  • Shape, size, thickness, gap, colour, opacity and outline, with high-contrast presets.
  • Up to 10 profiles with global hotkeys, for example one per game.
  • No game injection, no hooks, no network connections, no account, no update check.

Limits, stated plainly: play Minecraft in a window or borderless fullscreen, because exclusive fullscreen can hide overlays (see our Minecraft borderless guide). Anti-cheat and the rules of some multiplayer servers may flag or ban overlays; check the server's rules before you use one, and use it at your own risk. We haven't tested it with every Minecraft version or launcher. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The app isn't code-signed yet, so the first time you open it Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway. The shop page lists the size and SHA-256 of the exact ZIP so you can check it.

Quick answer

  • Look of the crosshair: a resource pack (Java), no extra software.
  • Attack bar under it: Options > Video Settings > Attack Indicator.
  • Fixed overlay on top: a crosshair overlay in windowed or borderless mode, subject to each server's rules.
