Crosshair overlay for Xbox: console vs Windows PC
People search for "crosshair overlay for Xbox" and mean two different things. Here is the plain answer for each. For the general PC guide, see our guide to custom crosshairs in windowed or borderless games.
On an Xbox console
Solace Crosshair is a Windows app, so it can't be installed or used on an Xbox console. There is no console version. On a console, the route is the game's own settings. Open the game's Settings and look under Gameplay, HUD, Interface, Accessibility or Reticle. Many shooters let you change the crosshair's colour, size, outline or opacity, or switch on a centre dot. If a game offers none of that, our app can't add a crosshair on the console.
Tip for any platform: pick a colour that doesn't occur in the game world, add an outline, and raise opacity to 100%.
On a Windows PC (games you play through the Xbox app on Windows)
If you play on a Windows PC, an overlay app becomes possible, with conditions:
- Windowed or borderless mode. An overlay is a separate window on top of the game. Exclusive fullscreen can hide overlays, so use the game's Windowed or Borderless / Windowed fullscreen display mode.
- Check the game's rules. Anti-cheat and the rules of some online or competitive games may flag or ban overlays, including crosshair overlays. Read each game's policy first.
- Check your title. We have not tested Solace Crosshair with any specific Xbox app or Game Pass title, and some Microsoft Store or Xbox app games may not respond to outside window changes. Results vary by game.
Solace Crosshair, for the PC route
Disclosure: Solace Crosshair is made by SolaceSoftware, the shop that publishes this guide.
It draws your own crosshair in a separate always-on-top window, centred on the monitor you choose.
- Shape, size, thickness, gap, colour, opacity and outline, plus high-contrast presets.
- Up to 10 profiles with global hotkeys (Alt+X show/hide, Alt+C and Alt+V switch profile, Alt+L settings), so each game can have its own.
- No game injection, no hooks, no network connections, no account, no update check.
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The app isn't code-signed yet, so the first time you open it Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway. The shop page lists the size and SHA-256 of the exact ZIP so you can check it. Use it at your own risk with online games; the app shows an anti-cheat warning on first start.

Questions before you buy: solacesoftware@smilingface.cloud
Quick answer
- Xbox console: no overlay app; use the game's own crosshair or HUD settings.
- Windows PC: a crosshair overlay works in windowed or borderless mode, not exclusive fullscreen. Check the game's rules first.
